My name is Brian. I am 29 years old and I have always wanted to live to be at least 100. When I was a child I told everyone I knew that I would be 100 years old one day and they should get that old too. Little did I know that I would grow up thinking the same thoughts.
Update 9/20/09: Please read
my personal bio if you're interested in learning more about me specifically.
Extreme Old Age
The human life span is finite, that much is for sure, but it has been growing over the years as advances in medicine, science, and general understanding of the body has evolved. In 1900 the average life expectancy of the average American was in the mid-40’s and today it is in the upper 70’s. Some countries even have average expectancies in the lower 80’s and if those are mere averages then we can bet that many more live to much greater years.
In fact nearly half live longer and we can assume that those that do live that long were doing things right. They weren’t doing the things that lead to early decay of the body or mind and they were smart about how they lived their lives. In my opinion this means that simply doing these things purposefully should greatly increase our life expectancies barring any unforeseen accidents that might be coming our way.
The World’s Oldest People
Some people in this world end up living to extreme ages. People living past 100 are actually one of the fastest growing demographics in the world which leads one to believe that with modern science and knowledge and the safety of modernity versus that of the past we can comfortably strive for 100 and truly believe it is attainable. With a little more luck we might even be able to seek loftier goals such as 110 or even push the limits of the oldest people ever documented living into their 120’s!
